The Australian Dental Council's assessment standards outline the four mandatory components for evaluating overseas-qualified dental practitioners: identity verification, education and training qualifications, experience and registration history, and clinical knowledge and competency through written and practical examinations.
Important note
The experience and registration history assessment is only required for skills assessments for migration purposes. All documents must be high-quality scans that are legible and show all text, letterhead, and signatories. Names across all documents must match the verified qualifications, or evidence of name change must be provided (e.g. marriage certificate).
Eligibility Criteria
6 criteria- General dentist must hold a dental degree or diploma from at least 4 years equivalent full-time academic study at a recognised higher education provider
- Dental hygienist or dental therapist must hold a qualification from at least 2-3 years equivalent full-time study with a recognised provider (depending on jurisdiction)
- Prosthetist must hold a qualification from at least 3 years equivalent full-time study with a recognised provider
- Must demonstrate evidence of registration and good conduct as a dental practitioner
- Must pass both written and clinical practical examinations
- For migration purposes, must declare work history for the past five years demonstrating recency of practice
- High-quality scan of passport-sized photograph (no older than 3 months, verified against Australian passport photo guidelines)
- High-quality scan of current passport
- High-quality scan of birth certificate
- High-quality scan of citizenship certificate (where applicable)
- High-quality scan of testamur (degree certificate)
- High-quality scan of transcripts showing subjects, course start and completion dates, and examination results
- Evidence of original and current registration or licensure from country of practice
- Declaration statement establishing identity and representation
- Work history declaration for past five years
- Professional references
- Letter/certificate of good standing from current registration authority
