Community Work Australia is the government-approved authority for skills assessment of community work professionals migrating to Australia. This page outlines the assessment requirements, pathways, eligible occupations, eligibility criteria, application process, and processing times.

Important note

Applicants can only nominate one occupation per application; if assessing multiple occupations, separate applications and full fees are required. Pre-assessment advice is not provided; applicants must self-assess suitability or consult a migration agent. Applications must be submitted via the online portal, not by email. Fast-track requests are considered on a case-by-case basis after formal submission. General advice on assessment criteria available at assessments@communitywork.org.au. Eligible occupations include: Youth Worker, Welfare Worker, Family Support Worker, Disability Services Officer, Residential Care Officer, Community Worker, Aged or Disabled Carer, Refuge Worker (DAMA only), Child or Youth Residential Care Assistant (DAMA only), and Parole or Probation Officer (DAMA only).

Eligibility Criteria

4 criteria
  • Must have a formal qualification (Certificate, Diploma, Bachelor, or equivalent)
  • Occupation must fall under Community Work Australia's assessed occupations list
  • Must match experience with nominated occupation's description and requirements
  • Can apply under one of three pathways: General Skilled Visa (MLTSSL/STSOL), Aged Care Industry Labour Agreement (ACILA), or Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA)
  • All documents in required formats (refer to document checklist on portal)
  • Proof of formal qualification
  • Evidence of work experience relevant to nominated occupation
  • Employment references/referee contact details
  • Agent Authorisation Form (if using a migration agent)
