This page explains ANMAC's skills assessment process for overseas nurses, midwives, and direct care workers seeking to migrate to Australia. It outlines the assessment overview, process steps, and what happens after a decision is made.
Important note
ANMAC does not assess nurses or midwives for registration to practise in Australia—registration is managed by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) through Ahpra. Visa decisions are made by the Department of Home Affairs, not ANMAC. If overseas work experience is provided, the certificate of good standing or verification of registration must be sent directly from the relevant regulator and cannot be submitted by the applicant. If unsuitable due to non-genuine claims, applicants cannot reapply for 2 years. Appeals may be available if applicants disagree with an unsuitable outcome.
Eligibility Criteria
5 criteria- You must be seeking to migrate to Australia as a nurse, midwife, or direct care worker
- You must check with the Department of Home Affairs whether you require a skills assessment for your visa pathway
- Your qualifications and experience must meet the requirements for skilled migration to Australia
- The ANZSCO code you have selected must match your qualifications and experience
- You cannot apply for a new skills assessment for 2 years if found unsuitable due to non-genuine claims
- Proof of identity
- Evidence of English language proficiency
- Your qualifications
- Work experience (if required)
- Fitness to practise documentation
- Certificate of good standing or verification of registration from relevant regulator (for overseas work experience)
- Clear, complete scans or photographs of all documents
