This page outlines the pre-application requirements and steps for obtaining a teacher skills assessment from the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) for skilled migration to Australia.

AITSL does not respond to phone queries or status update requests via phone or email. As of the page content date, AITSL was assessing applications received in the week of 20 July 2026. The Skilled Employment Statement (SES) is optional and available only after receiving a Skills Assessment Certificate.
Eligibility Criteria
5 criteria- Must have completed a minimum of four years full-time (or part-time equivalent) university-level study
- Must have a relevant initial teacher education qualification
- Must meet English language proficiency requirements through either study option or IELTS TRF
- Must meet BOTH qualifications and English language proficiency criteria for successful outcome
- Visa nominated must require a skills assessment (confirm with Department of Home Affairs)
- Documents as specified in the relevant occupation-specific checklist (Primary School Teacher, Middle School Teacher, Secondary School Teacher, Special Needs Teacher, Teacher of the Hearing Impaired, Teacher of the Sight Impaired, or Special Education Teachers)
- Evidence of relevant initial teacher education qualification
- Evidence of minimum four years full-time university-level study
- English language proficiency documentation (IELTS TRF or study option evidence)
